Most of my students come from northside Dublin, with a scattering south of the Liffey. Almost all report to the RSA Test Centre in Finglas, so naturally I know the Dublin 11 test routes inside-out. In addition, I have detailed knowledge of all the north city between there and the coast, including Raheny and Killester.

All that said, testers are keen to see that you can drive in any conditions, on any road or highway. So my focus is on complete driving skills, rather than “learning the route”. You will, after all, be driving outside the northside from time to time!

How do I manage it? I asked my students.

Young and old, male and female, they all said:

“You’re very laid-back, Joe. I was never nervous.”

But I was a shocked to learn that others had left them stuck, fearful, behind the wheel, “afraid to make a mistake”.

That won’t happen. At
U-Drive, any fear factor will be quietly banished in the first few minutes... and that’s a promise.
